Punk music has come a long way since the Sex Pistols and the Ramones. By today's standards those bands sound like pop rock. Hardcore bands such as Negative Measures have been punishing the Brighton scene with down tuned aggressive riffs and angry lyrics for three years now. The merging of punk and metal has created genres such as thrash metal and hardcore, this has meant that punk musicians have had to up their game since the early beginnings in the late 70s.

Negative Measures have a great light and shade feel to their songs by having parts that are full on power chord chug fests but then the guitar goes high up on the neck to play higher pitched octave type riffs which have a numeral type of vibe. They also mix up slower tempo parts which high tempo classic punk choruses which make their songs a lot more interesting. Also added to the mix are atmospherics which are common place in many of the sub-genres of metal music.

The hardcore scene has a family feel to it and the shows still have the punk rock, DIY ethics. The shows are frequently helped in community halls and the whole crowd are encouraged to blur the lines between performers and audience by jumping onstage to dance and stage dive. The mosh pits can be a tad violent due to it looking like a scene from a kung fu B movie. So get your ninja on and see what the hardcore scene in Brighton is all about.
