Brighton isn't the first place you think of when it comes to rap music but in Matt Murphy we have a gem of an upcoming artist. He took to the stage at The Latest Music Bar and thoroughly engaged the audience with thought provoking songs about his life and life in general.
Accompanied by an acoustic guitar, he infused blues harmony and melody with hard nosed lyrics of how he feels modern culture is operating and the message of his music is that it isn't a bed of roses.

It's not all doom and gloom though as his tongue in cheek and good humoured personality really shines through between songs. This provides a great contrast to the tough stances he raps about on subjects like mass consumerism by mainstream culture.
Maybe with a fuller sound with more instrumentation he could push on and go up another level or maybe his acoustic charm will win a larger audience over in the future. A true grass roots talent he is whatever direction he chooses.
